Central Texas experienced historic winter weather the week of Feb. 14, with a stretch of days below freezing. Sleet followed snow followed freezing rain, leading to a breakdown of the electric grid and widespread power outages. Water reservoirs were depleted and frozen pipes burst, leaving some without service for days.

Central Texas will be dealing with the aftermath of winter storms and subfreezing temperatures for some time to come. One of the immediate issues at hand, though, is what to do about schools.

In previous years, a winter storm in Central Texas would mean days at home and no school. But the pivot to virtual learning necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic means many students can attend classes remotely, and many staff members can work from home.

Here is a list of Central Texas school districts' weather-related plans for the week. Like the weather, plans are likely to change, so check back for updates.

has canceled classes until Wednesday, Feb. 24. The district is "tentatively planning" to do 100% remote learning that Wednesday and Thursday and have Friday be an asynchronous day of instruction. In-person classes won't resume until March 1.
