Fort Hood will break ground next Monday on this new 974,000 medical facility.

Fort Hood's Public Affairs Office is asking media to register for a groundbreaking ceremony next Monday for the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center's newest facility.  At 974,000 square feet, the $534 million building will be 60 percent larger than the current structure. For comparison, that's about the size of five .

Fort Hood says the Medical Center will include a six story hospital and three parking garages.

"This is the largest Department of Defense contract financed with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds and the largest design-build project in the Department of Defense medical construction program," Fort Hood PAO said in a release.

Prichard Stadium, commonly known as Hood Stadium, had to be destroyed to make way for the new complex, . Killeen ISD appears to have that will see the stadium rebuilt in a different section of the Army post.
