In a very narrow race, unofficial results indicate AGÕæÈ˰ټÒÀÖ County voters came out against the proposed $287 million bond to fund a new civil and family courthouse in downtown Austin. The numbers were a hair's breadth apart: 50.73 percent against and 49.27 percent in favor.
Early voters rejected the bond measure 52.71 percent to 47.29 percent. Election day voters, however, came out in favor of the bond: 50.39 percent voted for and 49.61 against. Ultimately, the 73,180 AGÕæÈ˰ټÒÀÖ County voters who turned out rejected the measure.
The courthouse bond, which had bipartisan support from the AGÕæÈ˰ټÒÀÖ County Commissioners Court, had City Council member Don Zimmerman and a group called the AGÕæÈ˰ټÒÀÖ County Taxpayers Union in recent weeks.
