Despite a recent defeat in the Republican Senate primary, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst has announced he鈥檒l run for re-election.
Dewhurst has served as Lt. Gov. since 2003. The second highest statewide position in Texas, the Lt. Gov. also serves as president of the Texas Senate.
Speculation regarding Dewhurst鈥檚 future mounted following his defeat in the runoff for Texas鈥� Republican U.S. Senate seat. But following a leak of , and confirmation of Dewhurst鈥檚 in 2014, the long-serving Lt. Gov. has made it official he seeks to win another term.
He鈥檒l have company, however. Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples, Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Texas Comptroller Susan Combs have all noted their desire to run for Dewhurst鈥檚 seat.
