Austin Independent School District employees will start to learn more today about .
The AISD board approved last night expanding benefits to people a district spokesman calls the 鈥渦nmarried, committed鈥� partners of regular, full-time AISD employees.
Superintendent Meria Carstarphen has said another open enrollment period could be added as soon as this fall.
"While we still have a few obstacles to overcome, legal and otherwise, a clear path forward has emerged,鈥� Carstarphen聽said in a recorded video as part of AISD's annual convocation. 鈥淓mployees will have the opportunity to add new, qualifying individuals to their coverage as part of a separate enrollment period as soon as October 2013."
The school board also for the current school year. It does not raise the tax rate but does provide a 1.5 percent salary increase for employees.
