What do twerking, Sharknado and the government shutdown have in common?
They're all some of the top trends in Google searches in Austin this year, according to the search giant's report. Austin's searches didn't do much to keep it weird. For the most part, the searches were fairly nationalized, , with one exception.
With that in mind, here's the list of Austin's 2013 top Google searches:

- Cory Monteith
- Kidd Kraddick
- Government Shutdown
- Boston Marathon
- Adrian Peterson
- Black Friday
- Jodi Arias
- Nelson Mandela
Twerking took top honors in both the "How to" category 鈥� along with levitating, sewing, tweeting and typing 鈥� and the "What is" category.
However, Central Texas did get some traction in searches 鈥� with the as the seventh-most Googled news event and earning the third-most searched in technology.
"This year saw a wave of interest in Austin for everything from learning more about tragic events like the Boston Marathon and the West Texas explosion鈥攁ll the way through to learning about technology terms like hashtag, Bitcoin, Vine and Snapchat," Levente Smith of Elizabeth Christian & Associates said in the press release accompanying the report.
And Google's acquisition of restaurant review site Zagat last year allows us to peer into the top 10 most-searched restaurants in town (many of which are chains):
And even though the final season of 'Breaking Bad' didn't crack the top 10 in entertainment searches, it seems the show did pique some interest in Walter White's favorite poison, as "What is ricin?" was the third most popular query in the category.
