Austin’s seen its share of boom-and-bust food cycles: Think the explosion of cupcake places, or proliferation of upscale burger joints. One of the newest beneficiaries of Austin’s irrational culinary exuberance is the pizza place. The last few years has seen a marked increase in the number of posh pie purveyors: , and , to name a few.
Austin’s pizza scene garners some shine in controversial � controversial, as Austin’s sixth place ranking puts it just two spots behind behind pizza mecca New York City.
of note the irony in the winning cities� descriptions, most of which hold up NYC as a pizza paragon � despite NYC ranking fourth place overall. And Chicago didn’t even make TripAdvisor’s list.
Three Austin pizza places got mention in TripAdvisor’s write-up, based off the travel website’s user-submitted data:
- Traditional pie purveyor
- , at S. Lamar and Barton Skyway, and
- Sixth Street stalwart : “Best pizza outside of NYC,� says TripAdvisor.
Getting a nod of its own is Austin upstart . Its Detroit-style pie was the only Austin pizza to get a shout-out in the Thrillist list of the
Via 313 also garners a respectable third place in Yelp’s ranking of , coming in behind first place-ranked and pie powerhouse .
