Poll Finds Most Texans Support the Death Penalty
A University of Texas/ shows that a majority of Texans support the death penalty.
The poll found 73 percent of respondents were strongly or somewhat supportive, while 21 percent were somewhat or strongly opposed. Five percent were unsure.
According to the poll, 51 percent of Texans believe the death penalty is fairly applied. Some 28 percent disagree, and 21 percent were unsure.
The state has recently come under fire for the 2004 execution of and the 1989 execution of . Since 1982, 482 people, by far the most of any U.S. state.
Summer Classic Film Series Begins
As temperatures rises, Austinites can once again find refuge in the cool darkness of the Paramount Theater for its annual Summer Classic Film Series.
The series, which has been going on for 37 years now, screens ranging from Hitchcock thrillers to 80's teen comedies.
The series opens tonight at 7 p.m. with 鈥淭o Kill a Mockingbird鈥� and 鈥淧illow Talk.鈥� Members of the theater鈥檚 鈥淔ilm Fan鈥� program are also at the Paramount, with complimentary beer, wine, and popcorn.
Cattle Roundup Shuts Down Part of I-35 in Dallas
There鈥檚 a cattle roundup in Dallas that鈥檚 causing quite a traffic headache 鈥� and some for local viewers.
An 18-wheeler carrying cattle overturned on I-35 South of downtown Dallas, letting about 90 cows loose on the freeway.
A dispatcher with the Dallas County Sheriff鈥檚 Office says cows are still running free despite an effort to load them up into a county cattle trailer. A few cows had to be euthanized because of injuries. No people were hurt.
The dispatcher didn鈥檛 expect the roadway to be clear until about 10 a.m. Right now, all northbound lanes of I-35 in the area are shut down.
