AISD Budget Meeting Tonight
The Austin ISD Board of Trustees will meet tonight to discuss the 2013 budget, and policy on consulting with employee unions.The board will look to the community for input on the proposed budget, which is currently $. According to , the proposed budget includes a three percent pay raise for those teachers who haven’t had one in two years. The raise would be a one-time increase.
The board is also set to review its policy on consulting with unions.
Right now, represents members of several education unions. It has consulted with the AISD board on labor issues since 1999. But the school board has recently proposed .
The public is invited to comment during tonight’s board meeting. It starts at 7 p.m. at AISD headquarters, located on 1111 West 6th St.
Watson Announces Med School Funding for a “Healthy ATX"
Today State Senator is pressing a new effort, �,� to bring a medical school to Austin.
Watson says the campaign to bring a medical school and other healthcare resources to Central Texas would be good for the health of people and the economy.
“Austin and AGÕæÈ˰ټÒÀÖ County will greatly benefit from the innovations that are being contemplated to update, modernize and upgrade the safety net so that more people have better access to higher quality health care,â€� Watson says in a press release. “Both entities are distinguishing themselves in their affirmative and positive efforts to enhance access and quality.â€�
Watson is hosting a press conference this morning. The Austin American-Statesman that Seton Hospital will seed creation of a new teaching hospital with a $250 million investment.
Watson’s proposal is part of his �,� which includes the teaching hospital, creation of “uniquely Austin� health clinics throughout area neighborhoods, development of research facilities and turning Austin into a center for comprehensive cancer care. The tenth goal, which all other goals are contingent on, looks to solve the “funding puzzle.�
Ron Paul to Visit Austin
